Choosing the Perfect Camping Tent

When preparing for a camping trip, there are several aspects that you need to prepare, probably the most important of which is a dependable camping tent. Choosing the perfect tent is crucial because this will provide you much-needed protection from the elements while you are outdoors.

Camping tents come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, ranging from those that are built for single occupancy to larger ones that can house more than a dozen people. In order to make the correct choice, you should first determine the number of people who will be staying inside the tent. You should also know in advance how much equipment will have to be stored inside the tent. Usually, larger tents come with dividers or partitions that can help you organize the space inside. This way, people can still have some amount of privacy despite sharing a single tent.

Selecting the Tent Material

The type of material used for a camping tent is an important factor to consider especially when you are going camping in extreme weather conditions. The most popularly used material is nylon, which does offer substantial protection against wind and rain. Even the most lightweight nylon tents can be waterproof to an extent but if you expect heavy rains during your camping trip, it is better to invest in a nylon tent with special waterproof coating for added protection.

Canvas is another common material used for camping tents. It is much heavier than nylon but it does offer more protection when it comes to strong winds and snow. Like nylon, regular canvas can be waterproof for some time but it would be good to purchase one that has been waterproofed if you are camping during the rainy seasons. Canvas tents are good to use during cold weather because it can keep the occupants warm but it may not be able to provide enough ventilation during the warmer seasons.

There is another type of material used in camping tents these days called neoprene, which you may be tempted to purchase because of the affordable price. However, you should know that this material does not offer much protection compared to either nylon or canvas. It can get very hot inside the tent during warm weather and it easily leaks when it rains. In addition, its weight and bulkiness also makes it difficult to carry. When choosing your first camping tent, it is much better to stick with either nylon or canvas.
