Have you ever gone out on a big camping trip, loaded everyone up and headed off gotten to the site to set up and discovered that you forgot your tent or that some of the stakes were broken? While it’s frustrating, it happens to even the best of us, which is why even the best of us need good, comprehensive camping checklists to get them through the packing process.

The thing is that it’s so easy to forget things when you’re going camping because there is so much that you might need. Often, if you haven’t used your camping gear in a while, it’s a good idea to check it all, too, so that you know what you will need and what you have that’s in good shape. That being said, here’s a simple camping checklist that will get you going.

  • Tent, and everything that goes with it such as poles, stakes, and a waterproof tarp. Don’t forget to bring extra stakes and it’s always a good idea to wrap some pieces of duct tape around some of your poles so you have it should you need it.
  • Sleeping bag, pillow and cot or sleeping mat for comfort
  • Food (campsite camping food can often be put in a cooler, but if you are hiking to your site, you will likely want to have non perishable food that is easy to carry)
  • Cook pot, silverware and plates, depending on your plans
  • Campstove or fire grate
  • Water jugs or water filter and cooler
  • Baggies for garbage
  • Ways to clean your dishes
  • Warm jacket and rain gear
  • Change of clothes depending on your plans and extra socks
  • Shoes for campsite if you’re hiking
  • Personal Supplies (think toothbrush and essentials for taking care of yourself)
  • Map and compass or GPS
  • Sun block, bug spray and hand wipes
  • First aid kit that can handle any emergency
  • Flashlight or lantern
  • Extra batteries or fuel
  • Whistle
  • Rope and duct tape
  • Camping tool
  • Money and identification

You will find that your camping supplies checklist may be different because it depends on what your plans are. For instance, if you’re hiking to your destination, then you will likely want to make sure that your camping checklist contains items that are much more portable and easy to pack in one pack or two. You may also not feel the need for so many clothes, but you will definitely want to have your essential gear, such as rain gear and a warm jacket for cool nights.

If you’re hitting a campsite, however, you will likely find that you have the luxury of backing your car up and pulling everything out, so it’s likely that your camping checklist will be much longer. It’s not out of the question for you to bring items such as air mattresses and coolers with you.

Each camping adventure is different, but you will find the right camping checklist to meet every trip’s needs, so make sure to have one before you even start packing.

Before you go camping, you’re going to want to make sure that you are as well prepared as you can possibly be. So, before you head out on your next camping trip, you should get yourself ready with a good camping supplies checklist. Whether you’re headed out to a campsite with your family and it’s going to be all fun and games, or you’ll be planning a little bit tougher type of camping trip. While still fun, these trips often are a bit more difficult and require you to be much more prepared with fewer supplies than if you were able to park your car next to your campsite.

You should know that most camping supplies checklists contain lots of common sense items such as tent, sleeping bag, first aid kit, food, water and bug spray. But did you know that there are many things which you will find on a checklist are things which you might not think of? It’s true: camping takes lots and lots of supplies and if you don’t plan right, you could find yourself in the outdoors without essential supplies.

This is where a camping supplies list really comes in handy. For instance, if you don’t plan correctly, you could find yourself without the necessary tool, such as a hammer or rubber mallet to pound your tent stakes into the ground and if you don’t have the right waterproof tarp to put under your tent, you will find that all of your things get wet should it rain. Camping supplies checklists are a really great way to make sure that you’re not only prepared for camping, but that you are well prepared for your camping trip.

When you’re busy, it can seem nearly impossible to properly plan for your upcoming camping trip, which is why a camping supplies checklist can not only help you to stay organized, but will help you to make sure that you are well prepared, even if you wind up having an emergency. The key is to find a good reliable checklist, so you know that you are prepared for any eventuality.

Look for good camping supply checklists on sporting goods retailers’ websites. When you go through a sporting goods or outdoor store for the checklist, you will find that you are dealing with professionals who know about spending time outdoors, so you’ll wind up with the most comprehensive list, without all the extras that can sometimes bog a camper down.

Many of these lists include items such as lanterns or flashlights and extra batteries. Duct tape wrapped around your camping poles serves as precut pieces should you need them. You may not realize how important an all purpose camping tool may be until you need to cut something. These items, in addition to important items such as a water filtration system and clean socks will serve you very well and you will find them all when you get the right camping supplies checklist for your needs.
