Campsite Considerations For Your Next Camping Trip

Planning a camping excursion? Deciding where to go is probably the biggest chore when planning that next camping adventure. Making reservations is a good idea, especially considering the popularity of camping these days. You definitely want to get into the park of your choosing, but how do you decide where to go? Below are a few ideas that might make your decision making process a little easier.

Making your reservation ahead of time has a few perks. Not all, but most parks will let the campers choose their favorite spot if you get your reservation in early enough. You can get in there and pick that spot right by the beach area that you love so much, or one thats a little ways away from the water and the commotion if you like more privacy. The early bird gets the worm, so to speak. The “perfect” spot is going to vary from group to group, but at least you have the availability to think it through. When handpicking your spot take the following things into consideration:

Who is in the camping party? If you have small children or elderly folks in the camping group, you might want to look for a spot closer to a bathroom area. Also, several campgrounds have a special play area designated for the little ones. Keep your camping party close to these locations so you can monitor the activities of the children at all times. In addition, picking a site a bit of distance from water and hiking trails will put your mind at ease when out camping with kids, especially if they are the more adventurous and discovery-minded type.

What activities will your party be enjoying? If you own a boat or other water vehicles, keeping a close distance to public docks or areas where you can dock your boat and jetskis right in front of your campsite are prime locations. the fisherman and swimmers should also have access to the water without having to trek across the entire site to enjoy their activities. Or, if your group is filled with hikers, stick close to the campground trails.

What lot accommodations do you need? The majority of campgrounds have different size lots for campers. You can pick from single-tent lots all the way up to those lots designated for RVers and camp trailers. It all depends on how much equipment and how many tents you are going to use. Also, another consideration should be power outlets. Some campers prefer to go totally natural and use gas lamps and charcoal grills. However, if you have a radio or other small appliance requiring power, make sure your reserved spot is equipped. Crowded spaces can make for a difficult camping trip. You certainly don’t want to end up too close to your neighbor because you didn’t plan responsibly.

The above tips are only a few to consider. Don’t be hesitant to take a tour of the campground if it’s within driving distance. Online there are several campgrounds that offer virtual tours as well. When you contact the park for your reservations, it is recommended to have a number of questions lined out on paper so you won’t forget any important considerations. This will ensure a happy and safe camping trip for the entire party.
